The Writer's Life . .

Overcoming Obstacles

Now is the perfect time to take stock of the obstacles we’ve overcome and the milestones we’ve accomplished.

Who isn’t familiar with the inevitable events that hinder us from meeting our goals?

I’m sure you have your own list of  woes.

But I’ll name a few that may sound familiar; computer crashes, illness, loss of a loved one or pet and the one that we are all, no doubt, overly familiar with, which is the steady stream of unrelenting negative news.

It’s important to push the pause button and reclaim our accomplishments, and I don’t mean just the jumbo ones. Some days, even the simple steps of getting out of bed, can be a daunting task when you would really rather just cover your head with a pillow or burrow under the covers.

Whatever you do in your grown-up professional life, it took a lot of baby steps to get to where you are today.

You may not think about your accomplishments this way, but you made things happen, by being willing to go out on a limb. Okay, maybe it was more like a little branch. Still, it was a start.

Thoughts On the Writing Life

Publishing a book is a result of many previously achieved milestones that are worth celebrating. Like what, you ask?

Sitting down and facing a blank page

Writing enough words to build a sentence

Writing enough sentences to produce a manuscript

Editing your re-edited words

Working with people who edit your edits

Allowing someone to review your book submitting your work

Experiencing the sting of rejection

Continuing to submit

Reading positive and negative feedback

Deciding to write another book

Starting the process all over again

We have to remember that now is a perfect time to celebrate our resiliency and the ability to continue on this exciting journey.

NOVEL UPDATE

Dreaming  of escaping from your every day life with the man of your dreams?Ready for an exciting adventure, maybe to an exotic, tropical island?

Me too. It sounds great, but I’m busy working on my Southern California romance novel. Think of sunny days and hot nights and undeniable sexual tension. Imagine a quaint town with lots of charm. Imagine a virile, handsome banker and a beautiful, passionate woman who will do anything she can to save her father’s orchards.

He’s too cold and she’s too hot. They are like night and day and their goals clash, but the chemistry between the two can’t be denied.

More details in upcoming weeks.
